About
This 30-minute tutorial-style class presents clear, methodical techniques to help you develop the ability to kick up into inversions evenly with both legs. Many practitioners, regardless of experience, tend to favour one side, leading to imbalances through repeated use and avoidance of the less familiar leg. This class addresses that pattern directly, offering structured variations that can be revisited regularly to cultivate symmetry, balance, and confidence. Using Sirsasana (Headstand) preparation as the primary model, the sequence explores key actions that translate seamlessly to other inversions such as Pincha Mayurasana and Adho Mukha Vrksasana.
The class begins with focused variations of Downward Facing Dog, where alternate legs are extended to refine essential actions such as straightening the lifted leg, engaging the gluteals, and maintaining level hips. These foundational principles are then carried into Headstand preparations, where a wall and block are used to support the body and isolate the mechanics of the kicking action. Attention is also given to subtler sources of asymmetry, including the way the fingers are interlocked, highlighting how habitual patterns in the arms and shoulders can influence overall balance. Though based on foundational preparations, the class is taught with a level of precision that will challenge more experienced practitioners, helping to build strength, coordination, and the ability to approach inversions with equal proficiency on both sides.
