It continues to be world-leading in providing the largest and most comprehensive range of Iyengar Yoga classes to members in more than 50 countries worldwide. What is Iyengar Yoga?
Iyengar Yoga is a popular style of yoga based on the teachings of contemporary Indian yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar. The method emphasises precision and alignment. Teachers of this style understand the practical and therapeutic effects of the various yoga poses. This knowledge is used to create tailored and coherent sequences that impart specific physical and mental benefits.
The training and certification process is renowned for its rigour. This ensures that all certified teachers have a high standard of technical understanding and teaching experience. This detailed and structured system for learning yoga can be easily adapted to suit the needs of individuals of all ages and body types.
Who is the teacher?
Rod Stennard is the founder of Yoga Selection. He has been practicing yoga for over 27 years and began his training as a teacher in 2002. He has since gone on to train under many of the most senior Iyengar teachers from around the world, including members of the Iyengar family at the Ramamani Memorial Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India. He is a certified Junior Intermediate Level 2 Iyengar teacher.
Rod is passionate about helping people from all backgrounds and levels of ability to access the benefits of yoga. He has an interest in yoga therapy and has been able to apply his knowledge of remedial yoga in specialised settings, such as his ongoing work with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Where do I start?
Once you have signed up for your free trial you might be wondering "where do I start?"
If you are an absolute beginner, or if you need to brush up on some basics, then head to the beginners page. Here you will find a series of structured courses that take you step-by-step through the fundamental basics of Iyengar yoga. Complete them all and you will be starting off on your yoga journey with a solid foundation. You might want to repeat them, maybe even more than once. When you feel ready you can then head over to the Classes section to explore some other options for intermediate and eventually, advanced practitioners.
For intermediate to advanced practitioners, it may be worth considering looking at the beginners section if you have practiced a significantly different style of yoga in the past. Learning the basic principles according to the Iyengar style will help you get more out of the other classes and courses on the site. Once you feel ready, go to the "Classes" section to explore your range of options. There are structured courses exploring particular poses or sequences in depth. Try the pose library if there is a particular asana you want to refine. Catch your regular weekly class to progress with your ongoing yoga journey - getting new insights and approaches week by week.
