Rooted in tradition. Evolving through practice.

Yoga Selection is an online Iyengar Yoga school created by teacher Rod Stennard. It brings together decades of teaching experience with a comprehensive collection of classes and courses, helping students develop a thoughtful, independent and lasting yoga practice.

Whether you are new to Iyengar Yoga or have been practising for many years, Yoga Selection offers clear instruction, carefully structured sequences and the freedom to learn at your own pace.

A lifetime of teaching, a library to explore.

Yoga Selection began in 2016 as a way to share my teaching beyond the physical classroom.

Since then, I've continued to record my classes, document their sequences and photograph the individual poses. Over time, this has developed into an extensive library that reflects the many different ways I approach, explore and teach Iyengar Yoga.

The value of this collection lies not only in its breadth, but in the connections between its parts. A familiar pose can be approached from a different perspective, a sequence can illuminate a particular action, and a class can become the starting point for a much longer exploration.

My hope is that students can return to this material repeatedly, finding new insights as their experience and understanding develop.

Learning through practice.

Iyengar Yoga offers a systematic approach to learning, where precision, observation and intelligent sequencing help develop both physical awareness and understanding.

At Yoga Selection, these principles shape every class. Preparatory poses establish foundations for more demanding work. Supported variations make it possible to explore familiar actions from different perspectives. Carefully chosen sequences help students recognise relationships between poses and gradually refine their practice.

The online format offers its own opportunities. Instructions can be revisited, classes repeated, and different areas of practice explored according to individual interests and needs. Live classes add another dimension, bringing students together for direct teaching, observation and feedback.

A regular yoga practice can help improve strength, flexibility, balance and posture, while developing greater awareness of how the body moves and responds. Beyond these physical benefits, yoga encourages a deeper awareness of the connection between body and mind. Through regular practice, we learn to observe our habits, develop concentration and respond with greater clarity and steadiness. These qualities can gradually extend beyond the yoga mat, influencing how we move, think and approach everyday life.

The aim is to make the depth of Iyengar Yoga teaching available in a way that supports genuine, continuing learning.

Meet Rod Stennard.

I began practising Iyengar Yoga in 1992 and have been teaching since 2002. My training has included study with senior Iyengar Yoga teachers, including members of the Iyengar family at the Ramamani Memorial Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India.

Over the years, I've taught students with a wide range of experience, abilities and interests. This has continually shaped the way I approach teaching, particularly the importance of clear explanations, thoughtful sequencing and adapting poses to help students understand their underlying actions.

One of the things I value most about Iyengar Yoga is that familiar poses continue to reveal new possibilities. The practice doesn't become exhausted through repetition. As our understanding develops, we begin to see more.

That ongoing process of exploration is at the heart of my teaching and of Yoga Selection.

A practice that continues to grow.

Yoga Selection is designed to support students at different stages of their yoga journey.

Beginners can follow structured courses that establish essential foundations. More experienced students can explore individual poses, specialised sequences and increasingly challenging areas of practice. New Intermediate and Advanced classes are added every week, while live classes offer opportunities for personal guidance and connection.

With more than 1,000 classes and over 100 courses, there is a wealth of material to explore. Practice Discovery helps students navigate that collection, finding classes and courses relevant to their interests, experience and particular areas of practice.

Yoga Selection continues to develop, but its purpose remains consistent: to make authentic Iyengar Yoga teaching accessible and to help students deepen their understanding through regular, informed practice.
