Focus: Yoga for menstruation. In this class we are featuring a sequence of poses that are commonly practiced by women from the Iyengar method during menstruation. It includes restorative poses that help to relax the abdominal region and soothe the nervous system. Although often used in relation to women’s health, this rejuvenating style of class will also be enjoyable and beneficial for men and people of all ages. It may be helpful for anyone looking to relax and de-stress. During menstruation many women prefer to avoid inversions or asanas that create hardness in the abdominal region. They will often choose poses that help to preserve rather than deplete energy levels. This class shows one way that such a sequence can evolve. In addition to a series of calming forward bends it also includes abdominal softening restorative poses; and some supported standing poses to help circulate energy and release tightness from pelvic region.
