About
This 50-minute class offers a comprehensive exploration of shoulder-opening variations to improve mobility, awareness, and functional strength around the shoulder girdle. The shoulder joint has an exceptional range of motion, supported less by deep bony stability and more by a coordinated system of muscles and tendons, including the rotator cuff.
Because of this, the shoulder relies on balanced muscular support and good alignment. When posture declines or movement becomes restricted, space within the joint can reduce, particularly in overhead actions, which may contribute to irritation over time. Rather than forcing extreme range of motion, this class works progressively to restore clearer alignment and more efficient movement, helping the arm bone (humerus) to relate more clearly within the shoulder socket while encouraging coordinated movement of the shoulder blade.
Using a mat, belt, and chair, the sequence introduces supported traction and targeted openings to create length through the arms and space across the chest without strain. Variations of the interlocked fingers Baddhanguliyasana, along with poses such as Gomukhasana, Adho Mukha Svanasana, and Tadasana, are adapted to emphasise shoulder organisation and upper back integration.
This class is ideal for improving posture, refining shoulder action, and maintaining long-term shoulder health through steady, methodical practice.
