About
This class explores how to synchronise rotation of the chest and pelvis within standing poses, with a particular focus on enhancing the twisting actions that are often under-developed in practice. In many standing twists, the chest may turn relatively freely while the pelvis tends to lag behind. Although coordinated chest–pelvis rotation is already inherent in the classical forms of these poses, this class brings that action clearly to the foreground through specific techniques and adaptations. The theme is introduced in variations of Parighasana, using the support of a wall to heighten awareness and control of rotation through both the chest and pelvis. This is developed further in less commonly practised variations of Trikonasana and Parsvakonasana, where the ball of the front foot presses into the wall and the hand actively engages with it, creating leverage to deepen the twist and encourage fuller pelvic participation. While much of the work explores open twisting actions, these principles are also refined in the more closed twist of Parivrtta Ardha Chandrasana. The class is well suited to releasing tension in the back, improving spinal mobility, and deepening your understanding of rotational mechanics within key standing poses.
