About
This 40-minute class features a simple, well-balanced sequence of standing poses designed to reinforce basic principles and essential yoga foundations. It covers Tadasana, Utthita Hasta Padasana, Trikonasana, Virabhadrasana II, Parsvakonasana, Parsvottanasana and Prasarita Padottanasana, with an emphasis on classical alignment and minimal use of props. The class is ideally suited to students who are beginning to deepen their understanding of standing poses, but will also benefit more experienced practitioners looking for a concise and straightforward sequence to help maintain momentum in their home practice. Standing poses strengthen and improve mobility throughout the legs and hips while also developing stability around the knees, ankles and pelvis. They encourage better postural awareness, improve balance and coordination, and can help counter some of the stiffness and weakness associated with prolonged sitting and sedentary activity. By working methodically with the feet, legs and pelvis while maintaining lift and space through the spine and chest, these poses establish actions that provide an important foundation for many other areas of yoga practice. Alongside these physical benefits, a steady standing-pose practice can cultivate concentration, confidence, stability and a sense of groundedness.
