About
This class explores the realigning and back-releasing benefits of twisting poses, with an emphasis on improving spinal mobility and creating space through the back. The sequence begins by introducing twisting actions in standing poses such as Parivrtta Trikonasana before progressing to an extended exploration of supported chair twists. Beginning with the more accessible chair Bharadvajasana, a series of related variations gradually develops the twisting action through different approaches to abdominal contraction, arm and leg positioning, and the strategic use of yoga blocks. These techniques help to stabilise the pelvis, lengthen the spine and enhance the back-releasing effects of each twist. The class concludes with Supta Padangusthasana variations that explore similar rotational actions from a reclining position, allowing the spine and surrounding muscles to release with greater support. Suitable for a wide range of practitioners, from students working with stiffness to more experienced practitioners refining their technique, this class provides a comprehensive exploration of supported twists and demonstrates how props can be used to safely deepen their therapeutic and realigning effects.
