About
This 45-minute class focuses on some of the harder-to-reach areas of the legs and pelvis that can sometimes be overlooked in a general yoga sequence. It systematically targets the calves, quadriceps, hip flexors, hamstrings, adductors, shins and gluteals, helping to improve mobility across the whole lower body. Some of these muscle groups can be particularly challenging for people with restricted mobility, so each pose is approached incrementally, with a range of options to suit different bodies and levels of experience. Developing greater freedom in these areas can help to consolidate familiar poses, improve overall movement quality and make more advanced asanas increasingly accessible. The class also includes an introductory exploration of supta virasana. This reclining pose can be an excellent starting point for an Iyengar Yoga sequence, but setting it up comfortably can be challenging for students with stiffer bodies. Here, simple prop-based adaptations are used to make the pose more accessible and to provide a practical foundation for incorporating it into an ongoing home practice.
