Yogic Philosophy 5 years, 2 months ago
I am interested in learning more about Yogic philosophy but feel it is such a vast area that it can be hard to know where to begin. I have heard that ”The Yoga Tradition” by George Feuerstein is a good resource. However I feel quite intimidated by its size and detail. Has anyone read this? I am curious to know what others think. Maybe there might be an easier book to start learning from?
Hi Sylvie. Yes that book is very dense and I found quite inpenetrable to read cover to cover. When I started delving into yoga philosophy, I found Michael Stone’s “Yoga for a world out of balance” really good, particularly for the Yamas and Niyamas. He talks about them in modern language and with good examples, and doesn’t try to disect or make literal translations of the sutras word by word.
Thanks so much Yvonne! I’m glad I’m not the only one who found that book daunting. Your suggestion is really helpful for me. I haven’t heard of that book. However I will definitely look into buying a copy. It sounds like a better place to start. Thanks again 🙂
