Focus

Yoga for tight shoulders. This week’s class features a sequence of basic shoulder opening yoga poses. It will help to improve over-all shoulder mobility. The shoulder joint is a complex region of the body. It is a network of bones, tendons and ligaments that enables considerable freedom of movement relative to other joints in the human body. The complexity of the shoulders can potentially invite problems and injuries. The region is prone to general aches and pains as well as more serious issues involving inflammation, impingement, arthritis and restricted range of motion. For yoga practitioners, having stiff shoulders can limit access to a wide range of poses that would otherwise be beneficial and enjoyable. For this reason it can be helpful to regularly include a shoulder opening sequence in your home yoga practice. This class includes a variety of therapeutic poses that will help to improve the health of your shoulders.

Key Poses

Garudasana, gomukhasana, parvatasana, anantasana.

Equipment

Mat, chair, bolster, blanket, 2 blocks, belt.
