About
This comprehensive 50-minute class offers a balanced whole-body practice that can be returned to regularly as part of your ongoing home yoga routine. Working systematically from head to toe, the sequence strengthens, stabilises, mobilises and opens the body where it is needed most, making it suitable for students with stiffer bodies as well as those with greater experience or flexibility. The class includes poses and variations that improve posture, open the shoulders, strengthen the core, and develop upper body and arm strength. Particular attention is also given to maintaining a healthy back through hamstring-lengthening poses that help reduce strain on the lower back, leg-strengthening work that supports the spine against gravity, gluteal strengthening, gentle spinal twists, and hip-opening postures that encourage greater freedom of movement. Reclining poses provide an opportunity to lengthen the inner thighs and hips while simultaneously calming the nervous system before the class concludes with a deeply relaxing savasana incorporating mindful breath awareness. Throughout the sequence, careful use of yoga props demonstrates how they can intelligently adapt each pose to suit different body types, making the practice both more accessible and more effective while deepening your understanding of the Iyengar method.
