About
This 65-minute class explores in depth how a yoga chair can transform your experience of standing poses and twists. The chair is introduced first as a means of establishing balance – creating the stability needed to refine each pose with clarity and precision. From this foundation, it becomes a versatile tool for opening the hips, deepening rotational movement, and improving the relationship between the shoulders and neck to reduce strain. Twisting actions are initially developed in a chair-supported Marichyasana III, then carried into standing poses such as Trikonasana and Ardha Chandrasana, before progressing to more demanding closed twists. Chair support is also used in Virabhadrasana I and II, and Parsvakonasana, helping to reveal and address underlying hip stiffness that can otherwise be masked by effort in the legs. Ideal for intermediate students, this class offers a thoughtful and challenging approach to improving mobility, alignment, and ease – particularly in the hips, spine, and neck.
