About
This backbend class leads in the direction of eka pada viparita danadasana. The techniques of this famous asana are initially broken down and explored in preparatory poses before being brought together in the full pose at the end of the class. The class has a longer time duration which allows you sufficient time to build up to the pose. The ability to lift into urdhva dhanurasana (wheel pose) is a prerequisite for joining in with this class.
The backbend component of the class begins with a series of reclining poses where blocks are used to lift and open the thoracic spine. From there a chair is used to introduce the characteristic leg action of eka pada viparita dandasana. Once you are able to raise your top leg in a supported position, the next stage is to attempt the full pose independently.
